USDC Circulation Falls $800M as Redemptions Beat Mints

USDC circulation redemptions outpaced new mints in Circle’s October 29 transparency window. Circle issued about $10.92 billion of USDC over seven days and redeemed about $11.71 billion. Net, that cuts circulation by roughly $790 million, leaving about $69.97 billion of USDC in circulation. Total reserves sit near $71.41 billion.

That is the plain read. More USDC left the float than entered it.

What USDC Circulation Redemptions Show

On Circle’s transparency page, the balances carry an October 29, 2026 date. The seven-day issuance and redemption pair shows the week’s direction most clearly. Redemptions beat mints by about $790 million.

The same board breaks the window into longer spans. Over 30 days, Circle issued about $47.86 billion and redeemed about $50.98 billion, a net cut near $3.12 billion. Over 365 days, it issued about $362.1 billion and redeemed about $367.15 billion. So the weekly drop sits inside a wider stretch where redemptions have also outpaced mints.

Circle reports reserves above the circulating float. Its page builds the total from cash and cash-like buckets: bank deposits, overnight reverse Treasury repo, and short-dated Treasuries, among other reserve holdings on the site. The sum lands near $71.41 billion against roughly $70 billion in circulation. That gap is a coverage cushion on the report date. It is not a market-price guarantee for every secondary trade.

What a Redemption Wave Is Actually Telling You

Here is the recurring question this week presses: when a stablecoin says it is worth a dollar, what does a redemption wave prove?

A mint creates new USDC when eligible parties deliver dollars. A redemption burns USDC and returns dollars. When redemptions outrun mints, the circulating supply shrinks. That is mechanical. It does not, by itself, mean the peg broke. It means holders cashed out more tokens than issuers minted in that window.

For readers who treat USDC as on-chain cash, the stake is liquidity, not a mystery ticker. Less float can tighten available inventory for trading, payments, and collateral use. It can also be healthy plumbing, because people asked for dollars and got them. Circle’s board shows both sides of that deal in the same week. Chain-level charts can still move the other way. One recent week, Arc’s USDC-heavy float jumped while the wider market shed dollars.

Unknowns remain. The transparency table reports totals. It does not name which platforms, treasuries, or market makers drove the redemptions. It also leaves open whether the dollars left crypto, rotated into other dollar tokens, or sat in bank accounts waiting for a later mint. Commercial intent is not in the float math.

The peg promise is still the same question it always was. This week’s answer is about how much of that promise left circulation when redemptions ran ahead of mints.
