Haider Rafique, OKX’s global managing partner and chief marketing officer, announced that he is stepping back from his position after nearly seven years with the crypto exchange. The announcement marks a change for one of the executives closely associated with OKX’s brand development and international profile.

After almost seven years at @OKX, I am stepping back from my role to take a meaningful break, focus on my family and personal priorities, and make space for what comes next.

It has been an incredible privilege to help build the @OKX brand and see its growth. I am deeply grateful to Star Xu @star_okx for his trust, partnership, and the opportunities he created for all of us.

And thank you to every OKX employee I have had the privilege to work alongside. I am proud of what we built together and excited to see the company continue to grow.

This is not goodbye. It is simply the next chapter.

Haider Rafique Announces His Departure From OKX

On the social media platform X, Rafique revealed that he would like to take a meaningful break and spend time with his family and some personal priorities before having any idea of what is in the next steps.

He further shared his thoughts on the exchange, thanking its founder Star Xu for his trust and collaboration. Sitting alongside the employees, Rafique expressed his gratitude and was proud of the team that he has formed.

He made this transition a message, and not a final good-bye. He didn’t fill in the void during the break with an announcement of a new position or details of his plans. According to reports published on October 16, his departure is expected by the end of 2026. But there was no final working date announced for the public.

Seven Years of Building the OKX Brand

Rafique came aboard when crypto exchanges were vying with each other to attract some of the trading community away from the masses. His contributions went beyond merely creating marketing campaigns, ranging from brand positioning to gaining international exposure and aligning with crypto-escrow organizations.

From Rebranding to Global Partnerships

He is also involved in the re-brand initiative from OKEx to OKX, which aims to align the company with its wider branding as a digital asset platform.

OKX also established itself in the traditional sports and entertainment industries via science collaborations with Manchester City, the McLaren Formula 1 team and the Tribeca Festival. These partnerships provided those exchanges with access to audiences they wouldn’t have otherwise.

These kinds of agreements have grown to be a vital component of crypto organizations’ strategies for making their brands visible. In addition to product and technology, visibility and public trust can shape the competition between exchanges in various markets.

OKX Expands Its Institutional Crypto Strategy

Rafique said this comes during a crucial time for OKX’s institutional operations. In March 2026, Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, is reported to have invested around $200 million in OKX at a valuation of around $25 billion.

The exchange has also been working on integrating digital currencies with conventional financial services. Circle, Ripple, Qube Research & Technologies and Standard Chartered’s SC Ventures were reportedly late to the party in October, extending the round.
