French banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa disclosed further details on November 4 about a cyberattack reportedly involving approximately $133 million. The attackers gained access to the bank’s systems through a third-party service provider’s platform and used the bank’s own account to transfer funds to other financial institutions. The funds may subsequently have been converted into cryptocurrency through specialized platforms.Regarding reports that €118 million ($133 million) had been stolen, the bank said it could not confirm the exact amount but acknowledged that the figure was of the correct order of magnitude. Some of the affected funds have been blocked, and recovery efforts are ongoing. The bank denied that the attackers gained access through its online banking subsidiary Fortuneo, emphasized that customer assets were unaffected, and said the external attack had been contained.
