A New Era for FIFA’s Digital Presence

FIFA’s decision to build a dedicated blockchain on Avalanche comes as part of its broader push into Web3 technologies. Previously, FIFA Collect—its official NFT marketplace—was hosted on Algorand and Polygon, but the organization has now opted for a custom-built blockchain to improve scalability, security, and user experience.

The new FIFA Blockchain will serve as the foundation for digital collectibles, fan experiences, and potentially future applications such as ticketing, loyalty programs, and interactive gaming.

Why Avalanche?

Avalanche’s high-speed, low-cost transactions and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility make it an ideal choice for FIFA’s blockchain ambitions. The network boasts 6,500+ transactions per second and sub-second finality, ensuring seamless interactions for FIFA’s five-billion-strong global audience.

John Nahas, Chief Business Officer at Ava Labs, emphasized that FIFA’s decision to launch on Avalanche underscores the network’s ability to support large-scale applications with speed, flexibility, and security.

What This Means for Fans

With the migration of FIFA Collect to the new blockchain, users will need to transition from Algorand-based wallets to EVM-compatible wallets like MetaMask. This shift is expected to streamline access to digital collectibles and open doors for new interactive experiences.

Beyond NFTs, FIFA’s blockchain could pave the way for fan voting systems, digital ticketing, fantasy leagues and play-to-earn games like blockchain-based fantasy football, where users trade players as NFTs and earn rewards based on real-world performances.

The Future of FIFA’s Web3 Expansion

This partnership signals FIFA’s commitment to long-term blockchain adoption, positioning itself as a leader in digital innovation within the sports industry. As Web3 continues to evolve, FIFA’s blockchain could become a central hub for football-related digital assets, setting a precedent for other sports organizations to follow.
