Binance Finds More Breach Points Amid 45-Hour Withdrawal Freeze

Binance breach points now reach past a single DevOps laptop. The exchange keeps withdrawals frozen for about 45 hours while it maps the attack path. Investigators say they found more ways in. Binance has set aside more than $6.34 billion in company funds to cover confirmed losses. Deposits stay open. That is the stake for crypto hacks readers watching whether Binance can restore exits and prove what happened.

Binance Breach Points Expand Beyond One Compromised Laptop

Binance first tied the security incident to a possible breach of a DevOps engineer’s laptop. Attackers may have used that machine to reach a service container. From there they could send unauthorized withdrawal requests. Later work found more ways into the system. The team is now mapping the full attack path. Security staff are still tracing the computer that may have been the first entry.

The exchange has not given a full tech account of how attackers used the extra access points. It also said it found no sign that wallet private keys leaked. Binance plans a detailed tech write-up after the probe ends. That line matches earlier notes that the Binance complex hack was more than one laptop click.

Withdrawals Stay Frozen for About 45 Hours

In an X post, Binance said withdrawals stay paused. Its security team is reviewing the affected withdrawal service and related addresses. It expects that work to take about 45 hours before withdrawals resume.

Binance revoked the affected address authorization and halted withdrawals as an immediate step. It also brought in law enforcement and blockchain intelligence firms to chase the stolen funds. Deposits still work as normal. Users can send assets in, but they cannot pull funds out until the checks finish.

Binance Sets Aside $6.34 Billion to Cover Losses

Binance said it is recovering affected assets for users. It has set aside more than $6.34 billion in corporate funds to cover estimated losses. About $5 billion of that already sits in the same tokens hit by the incident. The exchange is buying the rest on the open market and through OTC desks to match what users are owed, per a later Binance update.

Some token buys may take longer because of thin liquidity and OTC settlement times. Binance said it will post more updates as those buys move. Industry partners also helped freeze about $3 billion in affected assets. Those frozen funds still need recovery checks and are not part of the $6.34 billion reserve. The exchange is working with law enforcement, token issuers, chain intel firms, and industry partners to chase more recoveries.
