TON Network Introduces Gasless Transactions with W5 Smart Wallet Standard

The Open Network (TON) has taken a significant step towards enhancing user experience by introducing gasless transactions through the implementation of the W5 smart wallet standard. This innovative feature, developed by Tonkeeper and approved by the TON Core team, aims to simplify blockchain interactions and lower the entry barriers for new users.

What Are Gasless Transactions?

Gasless transactions allow users to execute blockchain transactions without needing to hold the native cryptocurrency for gas fees. Instead, users can utilize other supported tokens to cover these fees. In the case of TON, the W5 smart wallet standard enables transactions using USDT and Notcoin for gas fees, eliminating the need to hold Toncoin.

Key Features of the W5 Smart Wallet

The W5 smart wallet standard introduces several advanced features designed to enhance user experience:

  1. Gasless Transactions: Users can now pay transaction fees with USDT when sending USDT and use Notcoin for gas fees when transferring Notcoin.
  2. Parallel Processing: The wallet supports advanced parallel processing capabilities, allowing users to execute up to 255 transactions simultaneously. This feature is particularly useful for managing multiple decentralized subscriptions or transferring multiple NFTs at once.
  3. Enhanced Security: The wallet includes two-factor authentication (2FA) and password recovery options, ensuring a secure and user-friendly experience.

Impact on the TON Ecosystem

The introduction of gasless transactions is expected to significantly lower the entry barriers for new users, making it easier for them to engage with the TON blockchain. By removing the requirement to hold native tokens for gas fees, TON aims to attract a broader user base, including the vast Telegram user community, which boasts over 950 million users.

This development aligns with TON’s vision of mainstream blockchain adoption, providing a seamless and efficient user experience. The W5 smart wallet standard is currently live on Tonkeeper and is expected to roll out on other self-custodial wallets like TON Space and MyTonWallet in the near future.
